Love of Books

For as long as I can remember I've loved to read. An elderly neighbor would share her romance novels with me when I was a young teenager. She would hand me brown paper grocery bags full of books and I would hole up in my bedroom and read.

My taste in books runs the gambit from police detective with the Lucas Davenport Prey series by John Sandford to any of the beach novels by Mary Kay Andrews.  I read most of my books on my iPad using the Kindle app but I recently started reading Bunny Mellon by Meryl Gordon in hardback, and I have to admit that I LOVE turning the pages, there is something to be said about holding a book and touching the paper, it's kind of a throwback.

I've asked Santa for a few hardback books including two cookbooks, that's my other obsession. I tend to read cookbooks like a child flips through the Sears Christmas Wishbook ... someone please tell me they still print the wishbook ...

One of the cookbooks I asked for was Art of Pie by Kate McDermott, fingers crossed that Santa checked out my book wishlist and picked it up...I wanna perfect my pie making in 2019, #lifegoal

I also love to look through quilt books, which is not surprising, but my collection has shrunk over the years as my taste changes. I did pick up this new Pin Pals, from Carrie Nelson.

If you have a new baby coming into your family check out this cute Baby Quilts book from Susan Emory

So tell me...do you like to read? Any recommendations for books that are a must-read for 2019? I wish I had the time to join a book club, maybe one day.

Until Next Time
Be Kind

  1. I love the louise penny series. Set in 3 pines Canada. Just read the latest one. I listen on audible, then I can hand sew or make cards at the same time.

  2. I too love to read. So much so, that I do book reviews for several publishing houses. You should look into that. They only require that you have an active blog and you post on a retailers site (amazon, good reads, etc) You are given early copies (hard and kindle) of books being released.

  3. I too love the feel of a book while reading. There is something magical about losing yourself in a good read. You and I share a love for cookbooks. I also read them cover to cover. I hope that Santa brings the books that you have asked for. Merry Christmas!

  4. Reading was my first love...and I read everything. If you like books about friendships between women try Marie Bostwick. Her first novels centered around a quilt shop and the women that work and shop there. Her more recent novels have left the quilt shop but are still about strong relationships.

If you like cozy murder mysteries check out Laura Childs. She has several series going...one based at a scrapbooking shop, one at a diner in the mid-west, and one at a tea shop.

Currently I am reading "A Mouse Divided" about Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks (who was the original artist of Mickey Mouse). The beginning was a little dry but I have gotten very into it. It puts the entire Disney mystique in an entirely different light.

    Happy reading!
