We woke to gray skies in Renton, packed our bags and headed to downtown Seattle to catch to the ferry to Bainbridge Island. The whole goal of going to the island was the ferry ride.
#SeattleVacation
Waiting in line to board the ferry. I had not been on a drive-on ferry in years, and this was is much larger than the ones in North Carolina.
We went to the top of the ferry as it pulled away and said our goodbyes to the city, I'm pretty sure we'll be back because there is so much to see and we barely touch our list of to-dos.
These pictures are from the rear of the ferry, kind of wish we had stood back there for the ride, it wasn't as cold and windy.
After a ride around town, we parked for a little walk around the waterfront then up to their main drag for lunch.
This wood pile was too cool not to share.
We stopped at Cafe Nola for lunch ~ if you have the opportunity to eat on Bainbridge I would recommend this restaurant. The salmon sandwich I had was cooked perfectly, and Andrew's haddock tacos looked delicious, a solid 4 stars on Yelp from me.
A little local wine ~ Andrew had a beer from Bainbridge Brewing that he gave 5 stars to on
Un-tapped, he said it was a great beer.
One thing we did go looking for while on the island was the Bainbridge Island Japanese American Exclusion Memorial. On March 30, 1942, ~ 275 Japanese Americans from Bainbridge Island were rounded up on the island and sent to internment camps ~ This memorial is reminder ~ "Nidoto Nai Yoni" ~ Let it not happen again. I found the memorial to be very profound and plan on reading more about that horrible time in our country when we turned our backs on our fellow Americans ~ we must learn from our mistakes and not let history repeat itself.
A sign along the path at the memorial
These little flowers covered the ground all around the memorial.
Origami Cranes
"Throughout Asia, the crane is a symbol of happiness and eternal youth. In Japan, the crane is one of the mystical or holy creatures (others include the dragon and the tortoise) and symbolizes good fortune and longevity because of its fabled life span of a thousand years."
We drove to our hotel, which is close to the airport, the long way instead of bringing the ferry back, it was a beautiful drive till we hit the I-5 in Tacoma.
One last meal on the road and I can tell you this one thing ~ I will be thrilled to be home to my own cooking ~ so our last dinner on the road was mac & cheese with salmon, it was flipping yummo!
Okay, my friends ~ thanks for following along on our vacation ~ tomorrow we travel back to Virginia and our pups.
Until Next Time
Be Kind
