Celebrating 35 Years of the Rotary Cutter

I was so excited to receive this awesome box in the mail from Olfa...

I was even more excited to open it and discover these little treasures waiting for me...

I quickly opened up the 28mm Olfa rotary cutter and went to work trimming up
some flying geese units.

Let me show you how convenient having this little combo sitting right beside you
at your sewing table is..

Now y'all have read about my love of the Olfa company when
I blogged about the new Splash cutter and in one of my "Who Knew?" post
so it should come as no surprise when I was contacted by OLFA to write this
blog post in honor of the 35th Anniversary of the Rotary Cutter.

Here's the cool part...OLFA is giving away one box of goodies to one lucky winner from
my blog. It's easy to enter...
Leave me a comment on this blog telling me what you love about the rotary cutter and once one
lucky winner is announced OLFA will mail you a box of goodies.

BUT WAIT
There's more...
Because I love my Splash Rotary Cutter so much I will be giving away one SPLASH rotary cutter
to one lucky winner that signs up for my weekly e-blast. Don't worry, if you already receive my
e-blast just drop me an kelly@kellyannsquilting.com and write SPLASH as the subject, we will
verify your email address and enter you to win.

Also included in the box will be a stinkin' cute little rotary cutter lapel pin,

I thought Angie needed it to go along with her little collection on your name tag, you have to agree
that it is stinkin' cute!

  1. There is no competition between trying to use scissors to cut fabric for quilts and using a rotary cutter. Life is so much simpler!

  2. As a new quilter working with my Mother-in-Law, a long-time quilter, we were cutting blocks for her to stitch. She was so surprised as she had never seen one before! I was happy to be able to show her something. I think about her hand cutting all the quilts she made and am so happy to have a rotary cutter!

  3. I love using Olfa rotary cutters. I have used them for years. I can't remember (well barely) when I didn't use them! I have several cutters and mats ....in my on the go sewing bags and at my machine. I love the small mats so I can use them right at my machine. If you are tracing around small pieces the mat makes a great surface to hold onto the fabric! Can't gush enough about this wonderful product! AKA: Iva

  5. I love how quickly you can cut you fabric for a quilt pattern with a rotary cutter. If we still had to use scissors, I don't think I would be a quilter.

  6. The rotary cutters are great. I have many in different sizes. You can never have too many cutters or mats.

  7. I love Olfa Rotary Cutters. I am still gutted for having to "gift" my rotary cutter to the TSA. Sigh.

  8. One of the biggest things that has advanced quilt making in the last century! Many of the types of strip pieced quilts we make today would not be possible without it.

  9. I love Olfa Rotary Cutters. I have more than one that is for sure. Never enough cutters. I could not cut a straight line without one.

  10. I can't imagine NOT using a rotary cutter. I also love the tips you've shared about them. For example starting your cutting about 1/4" into your ruler and "backing up" so as to not chip your ruler. Also always, always, ALWAYS, cover the blade when not cutting. And if KA is around and sees an open blade, she will close it FOR YOU!

  11. I took a general quilting class before rotary cutters ... and decided it wasn't for me. It is because of the rotary cutter I gave quilting another try! ;-) And the rest is history!

  12. Love Olfa and would be lost without my rotary cutter

  13. I have tried all sorts of cutters and keep coming back to the Olfa , Love all the different sizes. Use the 60 for cutting fleece quilts for wounded soldiers. I use the 45 for charity quilts and for baby quilts for the family and love the little 28 for paper piecing. Wonderful product!

  14. Love my Splash and isn't it interesting how certain cutters become our favorites!

  15. I love the 28mm rotary cutter because it helps me with being able to sit at the table instead of standing all the time. I have more control with the smaller pieces I need to cut. Besides it so cute who wouldn't want to use one!!!!

  16. I love Olfa rotary cutters for making cutting fabric so fast and easy! I also keep a small mat and rotary cutter next to my sewing machine. I have 2 of the 60mm and 45mm, plus a 28mm and an 18mm. I also have a 45mm that I use just for cutting paper and plastic. I don't think you can have too many rotary cutters!

  17. I've been quilting since the millennium, 2000. What a great year to begin a life long journey of quilting, learning, and using quilting tools; such as Olfa rotary cutters and mats. I love my Olfa cutter and large mat. Though I must admit, I'm in need of an upgrade /addition in both areas. Happy quilting.

  18. I love my Olfa rotary cutter. I would never want to go back to templates and scissors. Has it really been 35 years already?

  19. I am old enough to remember the days before rotary cutters, and what a difference they make! My rotary cutter has definitely improved speed and accuracy. Thanks for the chance to win these awesome supplies. I loved your video and the cute nametag photo!
