Dinner Time

By now most of y'all know that I love to cook...I mean really really love to cook and when I'm on a cooking tear you better watch out, you'll never know what I'll come up with.

This past weekend I made a big pot of tomato sauce and a very tasty pumpkin bread.  The sauce will be for dinner one night this week and the rest goes in the freezer for those nights I just want to do something quick and easy.  The pumpkin bread was tasty and I would share the recipe but it needs some tweaking, I got it off a website and the cooking time was way off...I'm talking like 45 minutes way off...but all turned out good but I still need to play with it before sharing.

I'm not really a recipe girl unless it comes to baking so when someone says to me...how did you make that I have to stand in my kitchen and really think through the steps.  But last night I made sweet potato/black bean enchiladas and they were tasty...so while the steps are fresh in my mind...and your interested he…

List

Do you have a....
Bucket list?

I never thought about making a bucket list...but the more I read and discover out there in big world wide web I find more things I'd like to try...off the top of my head I'd like to...  learn to spin and weave and the reason behind this is because I follow way too many fiber blogs.  I want to rug hook..again because I follow way too many hooker blogs.  I know those are only two things but I'll start my bucket list off slowly and build from there...
so tell me....what's on your bucket list??  really....I wanna know...who knows maybe I'll borrow something from your list..
until I see you again...

The 3/50 Project

On the third Saturday of each month we hold our Thimbleberries Club and while we are there to talk about quilting and all kinds of fun quilting stuff, but every once in a while we get on some pretty interesting subjects.  This past week we got to talking about buying local, not just buying from your LQS but buying from your local bakery, farmers market, even our local card store.  Kim talked about reading about the 3/50 Project but couldn't remember all the details and I wasn't much help because it had been awhile since I had read about it...we ended the conversation with me promising them I would find the details and post them here... so here goes...

3 Think about which three independently owned businesses you’d miss most if they were gone. Stop in and say hello. Pick up a little something that will make someone smile. Your contribution is what keeps those businesses around.

50 If just half the employed U.S. population spent $50 each month in independently owned businesses, the…

Memories

Memories are funny little things and what invokes those memories are just as funny, not funny haha but funny in a strange kind of way.   While driving to work yesterday morning the sky was a crisp bright blue and in an instant I was taken back to September 15, 2001.  I know that date doesn't sound quit as much a memorable date at September 11, 2001 but let me explain....

For so many people 9/11/2001 invokes memories of what happened to our nation, the visual of the Twin Towers falling, the smoke bellowing from the Pentagon, and a large crator in the ground in Pennsylvania.  For so many of us that live in the Washington DC Metro area that day also brought  silence, a silence that surrounded us for days and weeks after that tragic day.  I can remember everything about 9/11/2001 and I'm sure those memories will always be there, mostly due to the fact that we sat for hours after hours watching the horror come to life on our TV's.  But September 15th, will also be forever embed…

Something Cool

Last year was the first year that Kelly Ann's Quilting was in the Maryland/Northern Virginia Quilters' Quest....and what a blast we had.  Last year there was a pretty neat batik that was designed by one of the shop owners, red/white/blue batik with the Washington DC monuments...while having this batik was pretty cool I'm really excited about this years batik...
hopefully you can tell by this grainy picture that this year the batik involves a sailboat, crab and sea turtle.  For those of you not familiar with my neck of the woods, and I'm really in the woods, the Chesapeake Bay is a really big deal to Maryland and Northern Virginia...so what better way to tip our hats to this great body of water then to have Susan from Capital Quilts work with Hoffman Fabrics and design the fun piece of fabric.  Each of the shops in the Quest will have this fabric for sale...and as a matter of fact you might even be able to pre-order...give them a buzz to get details...

That was the somet…

New Word

I have a new word to share...one day it might show up in Websters, or better yet Wikipedia...
Beautimes something so beautiful that the word beautiful doesn't really describe it right...Over at the Kelly Ann's Quilting web site we have an online quilt show it's something we started the year we opened and how much fun we've had with all of our friends showing of their beautimes quilts and I'm sure you will agree...so take a hop over there and enjoy a quilt show from the comforts of your home in your warm fuzzy slippers and cup of joe.
Have a wonderful Friday.... Kelly Ann
