Great Cause

I wanna share something with y'all.....my friend Melisa from Sweet Home Quilt Company is having a quilt raffle for a great cause and I know how everyone loves to try and win a quilt and how cool is it that you can help someone in need and have the possibility of winning a pretty awesome quilt...here's the story...

"Our local community suffered a terrible tragedy last month when Rockdale County Deputy Brian Mahaffey was shot and killed in the line of duty May 8, while executing an arrest warrant. Deputy Mahaffey had just celebrated his 28th birthday with family and friends the night before his death. He leaves behind his wife, Diana, two year old son, Trenton, and three month old daughter, Aniston, parents, brother and many, many friends.
Brian was the first Rockdale County deputy killed in the line of duty in our community since the early 1920s. This tragedy was particularly personal for us because he was a friend of my youngest son and we were acquainted with his parents through school and soccer activities the kids had been involved with through the years. Brian was also a co-worker of my daughter-in-law, who is also a Rockdale County Sheriff’s Deputy. Anyone who has a law enforcement officer in their family knows this tragedy could have just as easily happened to them!
The Conyers/Rockdale County community has come together to honor this young man and offer love and support to his family. A memorial fund has been established at Georgia Federal Credit Union, and we have put together an opportunity at Sweet Home Quilt Co. for the quilting community to help."

I "borrowed" this from Melisa's blog....because blogs reach world wide this story could happen in any town, in any state, in any country.  I think as quilters we come together in times of need...we gather for sew-ins to help whenever we can, so instead of coming together to sew this time all we need to do is contact Melisa.  I've gone and borrowed a picture of the quilt from Melisa...

and here are the details for the raffle....yes, I know again "borrowed" from Melisa...

$1.00 donation per entry requested. Drawing will be held July 12, 2010. Need not be present to win. Tickets are available at the shop or by calling 678-413-1611. Cash or checks made payable to Brian Mahaffey Memorial Fund please.

So...go ahead and give Melisa a call...she would love to sell you some tickets...or send a check telling her what you want and she will be thrilled to get you some tickets for your chance to win...

Y'all have a grand day...
and...
see ya around the monkey farm...

Did Ya Miss Me?

I bet y'all have been wondering....Where in the World is Waldo??  o'wait that's not what I wanted to ask...Where in the World is Kelly Ann??  How does vacation sound?  I was gonna invite y'all to come but the house we rented on Lake Gaston only had three bedrooms and I know how some of y'all are about sleeping in your cars and on the floor.  This is the second year we've rented a house for vacation using VRBO and have great success.  Last year we did the beach so this year we wanted to see what a lake vacation would be like....let me just say this...LOVED IT!  Don't get me wrong, I love the beach but the lake was actually more relaxing and the girls had a ball chasing the balls and sticks into the lake.  We did have some company...by BFF and her husband joined us for a few days....

Don't they look like a fun couple to hang with for a couple of days?  As I was downloading the pictures I thought, "how cute they both have on white tops and black shorts"...then I came across this picture...

and look who has on green tops...hmmm....and none of this was planned, as a matter of fact this was after cocktails and dinner and a day on the lake.  I always like those picture where you set the timer and run and get in the picture...

so that's the top half of this group....see how our shirts match...wanna see the bottom of the picture???

I was gonna see if y'all could guess who's feet with who until I noticed the color of our tops would give us away...so what do ya think of Andrew's pants?  or how about those orange glowing crocs?  Colleen & Larry know how to be on vacation...flip flops...

Colleen and I have been friends for 25+ years and you would think we were sisters...

Don't we look alike??  See we both wear our glasses on top of our heads so we must be related...

Well vacation is over and back to the real world...thanks for stopping by and having a lookie
at our pictures...too bad y'all couldn't make it but there's always next year!

Summertime

It's summertime summertime sum sum summertime
Summertime summertime sum sum summertime
Summertime summertime sum sum summertime
Summertime summertime sum sum summertime summertime...

"they" say that Memorial Day marks the beginning of summertime...I normally say it's the heat, well this weekend we had both, so it's officially summertime on the ranch.  Growing up our summertime travel was going to visit family, my father was in the Marine Corps so there was no vacation to Disney Land, nope there was the 800 hour car ride to my grandparents in Michigan or the 200 hour car ride to Virginia to visit my Mom's family, either way we spent a great deal of time in the car and there weren't any magic castles waiting for us on the other end.  I bet if we had one of these

we would have made several stops along the way instead of driving straight through...we might have even stopped at this place...
and then the 800 hours in the car would have been worth it....

So if you're traveling this summer and need a diversion from "are we there yet" take along the latest edition of the Quilters' Travel Companion....it's like a Mastercard...don't leave home without it!

Have a wonderful start to your summertime, if you travel or stay home, plan alittle time in your sewing
room/studio...it'll keep your refreshed, recharged and by shutting the door you'll create your only little magic castle...
Happy Quilting
