Weather is Strange

So how's the weather in your part of the world? Just one week ago today we were hunkered down watching the "blizzard of 2009" pour down snow on our little part of Virginia. Yesterday mother nature decided that the 21 inches of snow we had needed to go so she graced us with warmer temperatures and rain, lots and lots of rain, so now all that pretty snow is yuck! Because the ground is frozen the water didn't have anywhere to go so it's just hanging in the yard, do you know what happens when you mix flooded yard and silly golden retriever? yes...that's right a mess...Stella decided to do her little rocket butt thing through the yard and then wanted some loving from me..yuck again! It's gonna be another cloudy day here with maybe some more showers so it looks like we'll stay in until dinner time then off to T&P's house for pizza and gifts.

So what are you gonna do today? me..more sewing, YEAH, baking one more sour cream pound cake, that makes 8 if your counting, and spending the day with my peeps...no after Christmas shopping for me.

Stay Dry....
Stay Warm...
and...
giggle...
why?
cause it's fun....

Snow

Good Morning from snowy Virginia...this post is loaded with pictures....I hope you enjoy!

Can you see that the snow is up to Stella's chest...she loves it!
Driveway the morning after...

Can ya see the gate...no...that's because of all the stinkin' snow...
our backyard, if we were crazy enough we could go sledding down this hill but would end up in the woods...and that would not be fun...
another backyard shot...

ice hanging off the back of the house..pretty but dangerous...
my bushes under the feeders are almost under snow...

the other side of the front yard..

the side yard...

off the front porch...

here's Andrew on day 1 of the storm cleaning the driveway...he's my hero..

do ya think Stella loves the snow...
So that's what a snowy day in Virginia looks like and I think I can speak for everyone in this area...enough already...most of the area got 20+ inches of snow and while we do have some snow plows out and about we don't have enough to get all the back roads and for those of us that live in the country we live on those same back roads. I'll make sure and post and update on when we can actually drive again..we might be in the house till spring...

so...
stay inside...
stay warm...

Christmas Cheer

Are y'all ready for Christmas? presents wrapped? cookies baked? house decorated? really, so you're really, really done...okay then...come on over and help at my house, we'd love to have ya!

I've enlisted the help of elves to help get me through this Christmas season...

Do ya think they're up for the job?

Wave hello to Dee & Nancy...Kelly Ann's Quilting has their own personal elves sent by Santa to help...take a look at those scrappy vest...and yes Dee made both of them...and I want those shoes, who wouldn't want shoes with bells on them.

I'm not ready for Christmas, still lots of sewing to be finished, wrapped and mailed...yikes, yes I said mailed. I think I might actually catch up this weekend, why you ask, because we're expecting 8 to 12 inches of snow starting early tomorrow and ending on Sunday. This is where I give a shout out to my friend Sharon who loves snow and bless her pea pickin' heart hasn't gotten a big snowfall yet...so Sharon..come on over to Virginia, we'll have enough to share.

so until I post....
snow...
pictures...
stay warm...
stay healthy....
and....
keep sewing....

TNB Round Robins 2009 Quilt Show

Finally the reveal of the TNB 2009 Round Robin...Here's Jackies...she started off with the large center appliqued pumpkin and pieced flying geese...if you look real hard in the lower right hand corner you can see my hand embroidery work...

Can you tell Kim is our Wild Child..she started off with this wild center and look at all the fun the traditional quilters had playing with her block.
This block is so Irma...she started off with the birdhouse and Jackie finished up with the Cat looking over at the bird..

Here's mine...how do you like how Jackie matched my big star with a smaller one..kind of cool don't ya think? Kim said she added hearts because she "hearts Kelly Ann"...o'shucks.
Here's Nooks...I almost want to say this is my favorite...Nook was very happy with it...
It's all about the stars in Charlene's quilt...her block was gonna be a long skinny wall hanging but man-o-man did Jackie & Barbara add some really cool borders.

Barbara's quilt is in the pink...okay, pink & brown. That outer border really gave her quilt the finishing touch.
Here's Angela's 30's quilt...the picture doesn't do the quilt justice, the colors are perfect, using the solid in the borders...and that touch of applique...too stinkin' cute...

Well thanks for stopping by our mini Quilt Show...we had a blast doing it and yes we'll be doing one next year. Each month we had the chance to work on each others blocks, some were easier for me then others but I still had a blast and can't wait till we start again. So grab a few of your quilting friends and start your own round robin...if nothing else you'll have a blast at the reveal of the blocks...

have a great day....
stay warm...
keep baking....
keep wrapping....
keep decorating...
cause...
ya know...
Christmas is just around the corner....

Promised Recipes

I did some promising of recipes at Strip Club this past weekend so I thought I'd better make good on that promise...so here goes...

Spiced Pecans
1 cup sugar
1 lb Pecan halves
1 egg white
1 tbs water
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
splash of vanilla

Beat egg white and water until frothy (but not stiff). In a second bowl sift sugar, salt & cinnamon together. Pour pecans into egg white mixture add splash of vanilla and stir until
well coated. Add sugar mixture into pecans. Stir until well covered. Spread on cookie sheet lined with parchment paper and bake at 275 degrees for 30 minutes. Be careful pecans don't get to brown during last 15 minutes, stir every 10 minutes.

Sour Cream Pound Cake

1 cup butter (yes real butter)
3 cups sugar
8 oz sour cream (can use reduced fat but NOT fat free)
6 eggs (yes real eggs)
3 cups plain all purpose flour
1/4 tps baking soda
a pinch of mace
1 tbs vanilla

cream butter for several minutes then add sugar, cream together for several more minutes, this creaming process is very important so don't scrip on the time spent creaming the butter and sugar together. Fold in Sour Cream and add eggs 1 at a time and mix just until yokes are mixed in, don't over mix at this point or your cake can turn out tough. Add baking soda/mace/flour together and then slowly add this to the egg/butter/sugar/sour cream mixture, remember don't over mix but make sure all the flour is mixed in. Add Vanilla. Pour into large bundt cake pan or angel food pan treated with either Bakers Joy or butter and floured, bake at 350 degree for 1 hr and 10 minutes.

I hope you enjoy both of these recipes as they are two of my Christmas favorites...

The TNB Christmas Party

Welcome to the TNB Christmas Party...what you ask is the TNB? It's the bee I'm in...again, you ask was is TNB? Tuesday Night Bee...duh! We tried to come up with a clever name and we had a really cute one but it didn't stick because we kept saying are you coming to the Tuesday Night Bee...so guess that's what we're meant to be called. Barbara was very gracious in opening her beautiful home to us and as well as sharing her great cooking skills. Look at this beautiful table she decorated...just for us...

Don't mind the red cheeks on me and Jackie...no we are not embarrassed...it's what happens when you get this group of ladies together and there's laughter and bourbon slushies involved.
Here's Barbara slaving away at the store, what you don't see in this picture is her bourbon slush...
Caught Angela with her slush...she's thinking these things are yummy...
See the bowl on the table, that's those famous bourbon slushies...and Charlene is going in for a refill...
I played with this picture in Picasa...Jackie & Irma in deep discussion, it was too serious a shot not to doctor it up.
Here's Kim & Nook...even though Kim looks like she swallowed a mouse, nope and it wasn't those bourbon slushies, she's our DD drinking Diet Coke...but Nook, can you spot her over the candle? Yep...she's hiding her glass of bourbon slush...

We had a great party...we laughed so hard our sides still hurt. We did the big reveal of our round robin but I'll save those pictures for the next post...and you don't want to miss that one.

If you have a group of gals you get together with and are looking for a name...sorry...TNB is already taken, trade-marked and we're taking this show on the road soon...o'who am I kidding we couldn't take this show on the road with all those bourbon slushies we might end up in Jail and I don't think Kim has enough money to bail all of us out...so go ahead and use TNB if you want, we'd be flattered...and you know what they say, flattery will get you everywhere...

have a great day...
stay warm...
stay safe...
stay hip....
until...
next time...

Couldn't do it...

Okay, I went to Wegmans and decided that was about enough for me...well I did stop into Michaels and JoAnns but didn't buy anything, stopped in for birdseed at our local TSC, then home.

Andrew painted the windows on Friday so I did some scrapping and cleaning of said windows and I must say we make a good team, they look great. Watching some Redskins football then take the girls for a quick walk before the sun sets o'so early.

Tonight I'm gonna work on the last round of the Round Robin my bee has been working on...I'll take pictures when we do the hand outs...I can't wait...

I have one more day of my weekend, tomorrow is another attempt to start some Christmas shopping...I'll let ya know how that goes...

Wrap-Up, Up-Date..You Name it!

Wow...what a week it's been. I was going to try and do a blog post every day of the Quilters' Quest but as you can tell that after day 2 I had to give up. We had a great time during Quest and had the pleasure of welcoming quilters from North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, Minnesota, Washington State, New York, New Jersey, Texas, North Dakota, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and I'm sure I'm missing a few states but as you can see from this list that quilters will travel for the fun of a shop hop. We got to meet two quilters from Baltimore that made matching outfits and what a hoot they were, I'm sure their local quilt shop enjoys them everytime they walk in the doors. There was a gentlemen with rock climbing shoes on, they were so cool and he gave us a little lesson on them, very interesting. I was invited to sit in a Smart Car, OMG...the car is so tiny but the inside is plenty big to hold some pretty good shop hop stash. There was the couple from Washington State, the husband flew the wife out just for the event and yes he came along, he was the hero among all the lady quilters but I think he might have gotten alittle eyeballing from the husbands. We had wife and husband quilting teams come in, a nice young man did the Quest for his mother collecting all 12 block kits along the way. The stories go on and on, a group that had started one day with and 80 year young lady, she just couldn't make it on the second day, they asked if we would stamp her passport, you betcha.

There were 329 Questers that did all 12 shops, 60something that did 8+. At Kelly Ann's we had 429 register to win our door prize and if you were one of them and left us your email address you'll be getting our next newsletter.

My plan was to take pictures during Quest but we spent every minute entertaining our guest so there was little free time for picture taking...there's always next year. If you visited Kelly Ann's Quilting during our 5 day Quilters' Quest I just want to say THANK YOU! if you didn't visit...there's still time to see the fun room we set up just for the Questers.

Before I forget...that's been happening alot lately...We're having our Black Friday sale the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving, we've left our classroom set up for easy shopping, so make sure you stop by and check out the deals.

As I close this post I have to give a BIG thank you to my staff and friends, Jackie, Barbara, Nanette, Irma, Jeannie, Laurie, Pam, Rae-Ann, Leigh and last but not least my BFF Colleen. The fun and success of the Quilters' Quest was made possible because I was surrounded by this wonderful group of ladies.

until next time...
stay warm...
and...
quilt like a mad-woman...
Christmas is just around the corner...

Quilters are Nuts

If you've been reading my blog for awhile you know that we have a Charming Strip Club at Kelly Ann's Quilting and we meet once a month. Well two of our members come to entertain...oops I mean they come to show us their talents..oops maybe that was a poor choice of words...anyway, this month, being November, we thought they would show up as turkeys or pilgrims, but nooooo...this is what we got...

Did you that the week of November 1st-7th was National Fig Week? Well neither did we so we were in for a big surprise when one of our talented ladies came dressed in her fig coverings and bringing in a bag of figs to share with everyone...as you may have noticed that when I took the picture I didn't capture her face...guess it'll be a mystery as to who walks around Warrenton Virginia with fig leaves covering her most interesting parts. Now we just have to wonder what they'll be next month...any guesses?

So if you've ever thought about joining one of our clubs you can tell by just this one picture the amount of fun we have...

Have a wonderful rest of your weekend...
me....
I'll be binding a few samples for the store...
just in time for...
Quilters' Quest...
what's that you say...
you've not heard of Quilters' Quest???
stop by the web site and take a peak...
lots of fun will be had by all....

Are you on Facebook?

So do you Facebook? I'm pretty hooked...I joined FB to keep in touch with old school friends, then some of my family got involved then I got hooked up with a whole new group of quilting friends. I've been looking for a forum to do announcements about the going on's at Kelly Ann's Quilting I tried Twitter but that just doesn't give me enough letters to say what I want, yes I know you get a 140 characters to say something quick but come on...you guys that know me that I can't give directions to the corner with that little detail.

So...
where am I going with this....
if you're on Facebook search on Groups then search Kelly Ann's Quilting..we have a friends and fan page...I'll be posting new stuff coming in, new clubs....basically new and fun stuff. So come on over and join and be the first to find out what's happening at KAQ!

The leaves a falling, the skies are gray, the crows are screaming in the trees....that could only
mean one thing...

What...you thought it was gonna be something profound....really...from me...really....

Have a great Friday....

and then....
jump in the big pile of leaves...
and...
don't forget to giggle!!!

I'm Back...Sort of...

Okay where who took my time...it's missing...We could turn this into some kind of X-File episode..I swear it was just the other day I was going to Houston to Quilt Market, then bam it's less then two weeks till Quilters' Quest ... really where has all the time gone.

We've been busy at the store cutting kits...lots and lots of kits. Can you say Jelly Rolls...yep, lots and lots of jelly rolls....fat quarters, yep, charm packs, yep...you name it we've cut it. We've taken to saying..."after Quest" well do such and such...with the list we've got going we'll be just as busy after Quest as we've been before.

I've taken some fall pictures but the camera is down in Raleigh NC with Andrew, once he gets back I'll post some pictures of the yard...and I promise to get back on track with my blog posting....I pinkie swear promise!

TaTa for Now...

On the road again....

Yep...I'm on the road again...this time not for business but for family. I'm heading to North Carolina, Havelock to be exact... I've not been home since May so a quick trip down before the craziness of the Quilters' Quest begins. I'll try and take pictures down there so y'all can see where all this crazy comes from.

As I'm running the roads I give all of y'all the permission to enjoy the colors of fall and to...
make snow angles in the leaves....

Where has the time gone....

How many times do us bloggers start off a blog with.....where has the time gone? We all have good intentions but something happens, me I got a cold two days after getting back from Market and am just now feeling normal, okay, you got me there I'm never really normal but how about if I say normal feeling!

Normally we tote everything back with us on the plane, our luggage loaded to the max weight, our carry on bags so heavy we can hardly walk through the airport but not this year...our friends Joyce & Phoebe from Quilting Adventures turned us onto the "rent a box". A service, for a price, provided by Quilts Inc, it's easy, you rent a box, at the end of the day you visit your box and unload your goodies, before you leave market for good you go back, they weigh the box and presto, you pay up and they ship to you, no broken backs...yeah!!!! Well our box arrived and we've been unloading goodies...buried under all the stuff was some great rulers from Deb Tucker. Deb gives us an easy way to make the Hunter Star block with her ruler...we're so excited we'll be doing the demo for a month...now I gotta figure out what fabric I'll use to make one for me.

I have been doing some quilt type work, not alot but I'm working on my Bee's round robin, this past month was applique', two stems and I'm done...not bad but I need to hand it in tonight..yikes...I'm also working on a Halloween wall hanging, very cute and it would be really very cute if I would get it done and up but nope I decided to do a hand button hole stitch around the applique so it's taking longer then normal, maybe I'll work on it tonight at Bee. I'm also planning Irma's birthday present, well I'm not planning it, it's planned and I can't really tell you guys because who knows she might get a hankering to read by blog and I would hate to ruin her surprise...anywho, her birthday is this week and so it'll be late but she will LOVE IT!!!!

Enough rambling from me...gotta get going to work...another Fabric Rep coming in this morning and I need at the store early...

see ya later gator...

Market Time

Lets take a stroll down the street towards the George Brown Convention Center...9 city blocks...yep we walked down and back...

This is the view from the 2nd floor of the convention center...yep all those people are waiting to get inside...what you don't think that's a lot of people...you should see the line outside and what's behind me.
Here's our friend Pat Sloan with her new line, Georgia from P&B Textiles...those baskets are too stinkin' cute!!
Do these two look like they're having too much fun?? well they are...Susan and Christine from Swirly Girl Designs are having a load of fun with all of their new adventures.
We like to introduce you to our new friend, Helen Stubbings aka party crasher. Helen is a wonderful designer from Australia and we picked up a few of her patterns for the store and we think you're gonna love them. Helen does some beautiful handwork, it is to die for!!
Check out these two pictures from Karie Patch Designs...very cool quilts...we are so excited because we chatted with Karen today and we're getting a few of her quilts in a trunk show for our upcoming Quilters' Quest.

So...how do you like this thread stand...kind of cool don't ya think?? Yep, I ordered it along with some stunning Aurifil threads, 12wt cotton, perfect thread for hand embroidery work...what's that you say, hand embroidery work at Kelly Ann's Quilting...yep and some of the patterns are coming from our new friend Helen Stubbings.
so do you like this new line from Windham fabrics??? yep the whole line is coming our way and you can thank this guy...
Bob from Checker...so the next time you see Bob running the roads around Warrenton you can stop him and say Thank You for showing us this beautiful fabric.

We had fun chatting with Eleanor Burns and her son Orion and picking up one of her new rulers...and if you're in the Thimbleberries club this year you can use some of your Thimblebucks and bid on a bag with her signature...how fun would that be!!

We saw a ton of people, Ricky Tims, Alex Anderson, Kaffe Fassett, Amy Butler, Becky Goldsmith, Linda Jenkins...just to name a few. We had fun with our regular bunch of kooky friends, Joyce, Phoebe, Cathy and her Mom, Carol and Anna, Sue and David...not to mention those crazy Swirly Girls Susan and Christine...o' and there's Noreen from That Little Shop in Madison, Susan and Gary from Capital Quilts, Jackie from Patches Quilting and Sewing, Sheri and Cindi from Artful Quilter...I'm sure there were a bunch more but it's getting late and now my brain is getting foggy...

We fly out tomorrow morning...we'll have a bunch of boxes arriving in the store soon and I promise that as soon it all starts arriving I'll let y'all know....

so until we land in Virginia....dance late into the night...
Kelly Ann
